Hydro acoustic system "Mida"
Function
In response to the urgent global necessity of reliable defense and underwater security of harbors, the Centre developed the detailed System MIDA, which provides a reliable passive underwater acoustic observation at long distance against surface ships and submarines. MIDA is a hydro acoustic system used for building sensor barriers which provide possibility to scan the surrounding waters for presence of underwater and surface vessels and for their tracking by means of acoustic signals emitted on the natural noise background. The system is highly effective in identification of eventual presence of a submarine in the “shadow” of approaching friendly vessel.
The system’s module design permits to change easily its configuration when required, and to arrange a lot of lines purposed to adjustment to the variations of water depth, characteristics and other geographic restrictions.
The technology used is based on the experience of IMS-BAS accumulated during more than 40 years.
Structure
The system consists of a coast station and stationary hydro acoustic devices. One coast station is capable to receive and analyze information emitted from 32 stationary hydro acoustic devices.
Operation
The specialized receiver receives and analyzes hydro acoustic signals from vessels in range from 200 Hz to 10 kHz on the natural noise background. It is positioned at 30 m depth in dependence of the environment relief.
Main advantages
MIDA is designed to permit its adaptation to the requirements and restrictions of every particular task for harbor protection, emphasizing on:
The system is so designed that compatible variants could be offered for providing subsequent harbor configurations in compliance with the future client’s requirements, with no need of further deliveries, training and support.
• Proved products and technology
The antiterrorist security systems of the Centre are designed considering the very high reliability level required. The systems permit continuous 24 hours surveillance for long periods of time with minimum maintenance.
• Low labor costs
The level of automation decreases the number of operators to minimum.
• Simple use
The system is very easy to handle and is provided with convenient man-machine interface, which enables the operator to assess the threat quickly and to undertake effective and in-time countermeasure. Therefore, the risk of false alarm is very low.
Basic characteristics
• Capability for detection at large distances;
• Capability for localization using information from multiple lines and analyzing precisely the movement of target;
• Operated by a single operator;
• Automatic functions for identification and tracking;
• Fast operation for preliminary classification aimed to identification of potential threats in areas of intensive navigation; capabilities for classification; discrimination between surface ships and submarines.
